Looking for battery covers for my Szarotka

Post autor: batterymaker »

Hello--I am sorry that I am writing this in English, but I do not speak a single word of Polish.

I was wondering if someone in your community might be able to help me.

I just recently purchased and restored a ZRK Szarotka. I also make reproduction batteries for these kind of portable radios. When I make them, I try to make the covers look as original as possible.

Since this radio is of Polish origin, I'd like to see if I can make reproduction covers for both the 67.5 volt battery and the two flashlight cells. Does anyone have any original covers that they could scan for me? In return, I can post the finished covers for everyone's use. They will be measured to fit, and all you would need to do is print and cut them out.

Attached are pictures of my radio and some reproduction 67.5 batteries I have made.

You can contact me at batterymaker@gmail.com

Thank you for your time.

You definitely have to love old radios to pay attention to that kind of details. I wonder how could Polish radio travel this far trough the history and, happily, found some safe place :)
Can you receive something on Long Wave (Fale Długie) setting? Perhaps nighttime propagation conditions allow you to perform some European DX :D
If you will, you might even try to get Polish language speaking trough this radio: Try 225 Kc/s at nighttime, it is one of our few remaining AM broadcasters: Polish Radio One at 2MW ERP. Another one (which sometimes puts some of its programme in English on air) is on 198Kc. They used to transmit current Parliament's debates most of the time though, which I believe would not be that interesting for you :)
Popular AM "broadcast" band (535-1710Kc) is currently seldom used in Poland - we traditionally employed longwave 150-280Kc band for the purpose.
What kind of cells do you use to stack up for 67.5V? I wonder if AAA NiCad rechargeables. or some 6F22 in series could provide rechargeable replica battery to allow "sorry-for-battery-free" use :)
If you are interested, I enjoy receiving BBC World Service on a homebrew tube receiver. Nighttime propagation conditions provide fairly strong signal in only foreign language I understand :D
Cheers,
Michał

Okay, I have assembled a test cover. This is what I have so far, and I think this is what it should look like. However, since I did not have a view of the front of the battery, I had to guess as to what it looked like.

Does anyone know what it should say on the front? And is my spelling and punctuation correct? :D

Cover deleted.

I still have to do an alignment on the radio, but to the best of my knowledge, all three bands work. The AM side definitely works.

I use either a DC-DC converter or seven 9-volt batteries stacked together--two stacks of three side-by-side, and the seventh mounted just behind them.

Thank you very much for the scans and pictures.

I shall have an updated battery cover for all of you shortly.

I am moving fairly slowly, as I have caught a cold from my daughter....

As KaW noticed, there's an error on Your picture. It should say "WOLTOMIERZEM" instead of "WOLTCMIERZEM" (replace the C with an O).
Best regards
